Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

Am I Eligible?

WIC services are available to:

  • Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or who recently had a baby.
  • Infants from birth to 1 year of age.
  • Children from 1 year of age to their 5th birthday (child must be less than age 5).

that meet the following income guidelines:

  • Effective March 15, 2008, the following table provides income eligibility information based on gross income (income before taxes):

Mothers can stay on WIC for one year after the baby is born if she is breastfeeding.

Bring the following items at time of application:

  • Identification for self and child(ren)
  • Proof of household income (all sources including pay stubs, child support, disability, foster care stipends, etc.)
  • Proof of Michigan residency

The following checklist is provided for your assistance:

YOUR ADDRESS
You must bring in one proof of your Michigan residency (one of the following). The document must be current and show your name and actual address (not a P.O. Box).

Utility bill - electric or phone bill
Bank statement
Client's school record, recent
Driver's license
Foster child placement letter/notice
Housing, rent/mortgage agreement
Letter from person applicant lives with and proof (such as utility bill, etc. with the name/address of the individual with whom the applicant or client is living)
Military orders, U.S.
Official map/residence location
Paycheck/stub with name and address
Photo ID card, official
Shelter letter signed/dated by staff
Property tax receipt, W-2 form for the previous year (can only be used in January or February of current year)
Unemployment documents in applicant's or client's name
Voter registration card

Note: Women and children can qualify for WIC regardless of their citizenship or immigration status.

IDENTIFICATION
You must bring in one proof of identification for you and for any infant or child who is applying for WIC. The document must be current. Any one of these can be proof of identity.

Baptismal certificate
Birth certificate
Client's school ID or record, recent
Court orders (divorce, child support, alimony, adoption)
Driver's license
Foster child placement letter/notice
ID card for health, social services or work
Infant hospital records (for example crib card, discharge papers), acceptable for infants only
Immigration record
Marriage license
Medical records
Military ID, U.S.
Passport, U.S.
Paycheck/stub with name
Photo ID card, official
Supplemental Security Income letter in applicant's or client's name
Unemployment documents in applicant's or client's name
Social Security card
Immunization record
