Dog Licenses

The County Treasurer must make available, dog licenses, kennel licenses, and dog tags. Once a dog owner or kennel owner complies with the statutory prerequisites of the Calhoun County Dog Ordinance, he or she is able to obtain the appropriate license. All dogs must be licensed when they attain the age of four months. A dog owner must provide proof of Rabies Vaccination and proof of spay/neutering. The costs for licenses are as follows:

1 year license:

Spayed/neutered: $8.00

Male/Female: $18.00
Don't forget, on March
1st, 2010, License fees will double.

3 year license:
Only with rabies
vaccination good until 2012

Spayed/neutered: $18.00

Male/Female: $48.00
On March 1st, 2010, License fees will be as follows:

Spayed/neutered: $26.00

Male/Female: $68.00

To purchase a three year license, the rabies vaccination cannot expire before 2012. It must be valid for at least two full years.

Make check/money order payable to Ann Rosenbaum or Calhoun County Treasurer, and remit along with a valid rabies vaccination certificate and certificate showing dog is spayed or neutered to:

In order to purchase a dog license, you will need proof of a valid rabies and a proof of spayed/neutering if applicable.

PLEASE ENCLOSE A SELF-ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVELOPE.
(CERTIFICATE WILL BE RETURNED ALONG WITH YOUR DOG LICENSE)

Microchip implantation and registration for dogs are available. For information please contact your local veterinarian, call the Michigan Department of Agriculture at 517-241-2748 or visit www.akccar.org.

Kennel License fee is based on the number of dogs kept. Kennel licenses are only available from the County Treasurer’s office or by clicking here for an application in PDF format.

You may also obtain a dog license in person from your veterinarian, local Treasurer (Dec 1st to Feb 28th of the following year), and the Human Society/Animal Shelter.
