Veterans' Affairs Committee Minutes

February 14, 2002

Meeting called to order by Calhoun County Veterans' Affairs Committee Co-Chairman Phil Savage at 8:15 A.M.

Roll-call of committee members:

Chair, Dan Downing, Not Present.

Co-Chair, Phil Savage, Present.

Arnold Arquette, Present.

Citizens' Time:

None

Reading of the January Minutes and Activity Report:

January minutes were not read due to no meeting convening in January.

December, 2001 Activity Report was read and accepted.

2001 Year End Activity Report was read and accepted.

January activity report was read and accepted.

Old Business:

None

Applications for General Assistance from the Soldiers' and Sailors' Relief Fund:

No applications were taken for consideration.

New Business:

Mr. Savage inquired about the possibility of establishing a A 800" number for the office. The purpose of a toll-free number is for easier and cost effective access from outlying areas in the county.

Mr. Savage identified a prospective committee member, Del Turner, to take the place of the recently departed Steve Crane. (Mr. Crane opted off the committee due to his new residency being in Kalamazoo County. This action took place in November, 2002). Mr. Savage stated that he would complete the necessary documentation for appointment.

Both Mr. Savage and Mr. Arquette requested that letters be mailed to the three committee members indicating that an election would ensue at the March meeting. The purpose of the election is to identify and vote on a Chair and Vice-Chair of the committee.

Mr. Savage initiated a brief discussion regarding office relocation. Mr. Savage further requested that keys be made available to each committee member.
