Old Business:

The Director noted that the committee needed to, at least, read two memos sent to the Administrator. The memo dated April 29, 2002, addressed office relocation. The Director stated that on June 6, 2002, the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners approved office relocation as stipulated by the Administrator' s recommendation. While the Administrator' s recommendation eliminated one additional office space, the Director stated that the office will dramatically benefit from the relocation. The Director further stated that he would keep the committee updated on the renovation of the newly acquired office space. (See attached memo)

The memo dated May 9, 2002, addressed the theft of a government check from the office. The Director stated that a theft of this magnitude was unprecedented in our VA office. He further stated that the veteran' s missing check is now under the jurisdiction of the United States Department of Treasury. Mr. Turner asked the Director what steps were incorporated to insure that this sort of theft does not occur again. The Director stated that mail handling procedures were discussed and the office has taken the necessary steps to secure non-office mail in a different location.
