Veterans Affairs Committee meeting convened by Veterans Committee
Chairman Phil Savage at 9:45 A.M.

Reading of the November Committee Meeting Minutes and November
Activity Report:
November Veterans Affairs Committee Meeting Minutes were read and
accepted.
November Veterans Affairs Activity Report was read.
Applications for General Assistance from the Soldiers’ and
Sailors’ Relief Fund:
04-14 Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Relief Application for rent–$450.00.
Approved for rent–$450.00
04-15 Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Relief Application for two (2) months
mortgage and auto insurance–$871.00.
Approved for two (2) months mortgage and auto insurance–$871.00.
04-16 Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Relief Application for rent–$250.00.
Approved for rent–$250.00.
Each Soldiers and Sailors Relief Applicant provided additional
information, in person, to the Committee.
Old Business:
Director announced plans to establish monthly office hours at the
American Legion Post in Albion. Director stated that the Albion
American Legion Post welcomes the opportunities that monthly office
hours may provide.
New Business:
Mr. Martin inquired if the Director and Service Officer were
checking to see if serviced veterans were represented by service
organizations for federal claims work. The Director stated that
routine checks were made on a consistent basis for service
organization representation. Mr. Martin stated that he received
information stipulating that the Vietnam Veterans of America and the
Disabled American Veterans service organizations out of Detroit lost
veterans representation to the Military Order of the Purple Heart
through the Calhoun County Veterans Affairs office. The Director
stated that he did not recall switching representation from one
organization to another organization. The Director asked Mr. Martin if
he could provide the names of the veterans whose service organization
representation was changed. Mr. Martin stated that he would
investigate.
The Director informed the Committee that Mr. Todd Kaminski was, in
fact, reappointed to the Veterans Affairs Committee by the Board of
Commissioners.
Mr. Savage informed the Committee that he will soon begin gather
information pertaining to securing special millage funding for the
office.
