Chair Art Kale, second from the left in the photograph, is Calhoun County's appointed representative on the Firekeepers Local Revenue Sharing Board.
On February 10, 2012, the Firekeepers Local Revenue Sharing Board received a revenue sharing check for the 2011 year from the Notawaseppi Huron Bank of the Potawatomi. The check, in the amount of $4.8 million, represents the payment required under the Compact for the Firekeepers Casino, located in Emmett Township. The funds will be used first to reimburse local governments for direct expenses incurred as a result of the Casino and then to reimburse local governments for payments in lieu of taxes. The balance of the funds are distributed to local governmental units and are used for a variety of purposes by those local governments.
