Calhoun County Senior Millage. . . Funding Services for Seniors
Calhoun County voters have provided funds through a senior millage levy. The senior millage was first passed in 1996, and then renewed in 2000, 2006, and 2010. The Calhoun County Board of commissioners designed the millage to be utilized for the purpose of providing funds for planning, coordinating, evaluating, and providing services to Calhoun County residents aged 60 and over. Annually, a request for proposal process determines what agencies and services will be funded. The funding provides for the needs of Calhoun County seniors that cannot be met by the resources of the individual, the senior’s family, volunteers, charitable organizations, or through state or federal programs.
The Senior Millage Allocation Committee, comprised of three county commissioners and ten (10) Calhoun County residents, has been appointed by the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners to develop funding recommendations, identify seniors needs, and ensure that senior millage funding is being appropriately utilized by providers. Senior millage-funded programs are available to anyone living in Calhoun County who is aged 60 or older. Some programs have additional income and program requirements. Although all of the services are available free to Calhoun County residents, donations are appreciated and help extend what services can be provided.
