Centenarian Luncheon 2017

CENTENARIAN LUNCHEON

On May 16th County honored it’s resident Centenarians that celebrate their  99th birthday anytime this year or older with a luncheon at Schuler’s Restaurant in Marshall. The event was hosted by the Calhoun County Office of Senior Services and CareWell Services Southwest, Region 3B Area Agency on Aging and Schuler’s Restaurant.  Twenty-three (23) Centenarians were able to attend, along with their families or caregivers.  Derek King, the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners Chairman read the proclamation of recognizing that May is Older Americans Month and May 17 as Older Michiganians Day and designated May 16 as Calhoun County Centenarian Day.

The event was attended by Steve Betterly, Region Supervisor AASA Agency and Carol Dye, Senior Executive Assistant for the Department of Health and Human Services.  Other officials including:  Mayor of Marshall, Jack Reed; Dr. Ginger Williams, Oaklawn CEO; several BOC and SMAC members.

It was an event filled with illuminating conversation, humor about the ‘good old days,’ and a delicious lunch prepared by Schulers with a staff that was very attentive to the needs of our Centenarians.  In conclusion of the celebration, birthday cake and vanilla ice cream was served.  It was a sweet ending as the Centenarians gathered for the group photo before they went home on a bright sunny day.
