The Calhoun County Land Bank Authority, is a separate legal entity and public body incorporated in 2006. The land bank authority collaborates closely with the Calhoun County Treasurer's office to acquire, manage, and redevelop tax-reverted properties back into productive use.

Building community partnerships enables the Land Bank to work effectively as a tool to stabilize communities burdened by large numbers of vacant, abandoned, and/or foreclosed properties. Abandoned properties pose significant fire and safety hazards, attract vandalism, & generate criminal activity. These blighted properties create a ripple effect, lowering adjacent property values and contributing to the decline of entire neighborhoods.

To preserve the integrity of the neighborhood, the Calhoun County Land Bank works diligently with public, private, and nonprofit partners with the focus on neighborhood stabilization and redevelopment.

Side-Lot Program: Homeowners with vacant Land Bank properties adjacent on either side of their home may have the option to purchase a contiguous vacant lot as a side yard. See attached side lot application and current list of available properties.

Adopt-A-Lot Program: Community organizations have the opportunity to beautify vacant parcels through a lease agreement, to learn more click here.  For a list of available properties for the Adopt-A-Lot program please click here.

Neighborhood Stabilization Program 2 (NSP2): The Calhoun County Land Bank Authority and the City of Battle Creek partnered for the Michigan NSP2 Consortium project. To learn more, click here.
