The County Treasurer must make available, dog licenses, kennel licenses, and dog tags. Once a dog owner or kennel owner complies with the statutory prerequisites of the Calhoun County Dog Ordinance, he or she is able to obtain the appropriate license. View the Animal Control and Protection Ordinance here.

  • All dogs must be licensed when they attain the age of four months. NOTE: Battle Creek residents living within the city limits must obtain their appropriate license at the city's office.
  • A dog owner must provide proof of Rabies Vaccination. Dog owners who can provide proof of the animal being spayed/neutered will have a reduced license fee.
  • County residents can obtain their dog license in person from December 1 thru February 28 from their local treasurer, many of the area veterinarians (Click here for the full list of veterinarians) or the Humane Society of South Central Michigan. You can also obtain a dog license year-round from the Calhoun County Treasurer’s office.  Please provide application/renewal papers, proof of rabies vaccination, proof of spayed/neutered dog and appropriate payment (check or money order made payable to Calhoun County Treasurer).  Credit and debit cards are also accepted through the secure website GovPay.
