County Board Assumes Control of Road Commission

On September 20th, the County Board of Commissioners voted to dissolve the Road Commission and assume the responsibility for County road maintenance.   Effective November 1, 2012, the maintenance of County roads will be completed by the new County Department of Roads which will report directly to the County Administrator.

Although the Road Department is new, the operations necessary to maintain roads will be carried out in the short term by the same staff as previously employed under the Road Commission.  Over time, County Administration will evaluate the road conditions and work with Road Department staff to make the policy, practice and process changes necessary to improve the roads in Calhoun County.

The Board of Commissioners looks forward to working with County Administration, other local units of government, and Road Department employees to improve the conditions of the roads in order to better meet the needs of local businesses and the citizens of Calhoun County.
