Pablo Lerma, Assistant Juvenile Home Director

The Calhoun County Juvenile Home is operated under the auspices of the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners.  The Detention Program is designed to provide a short-term, physically restrictive, safe and humane environment for 42 youth, both male and female, ages 11 to 17 who are detained pending further court action.  The youth who are placed in the Detention Program via court order are experiencing difficulties in their community and are placed in detention prior to adjudication or while awaiting disposition or placement.  Discharge from detention occurs only through posting of bond (if applicable) or by order of the court.

The Detention Program components are designed to meet each individual youth's needs.  The following programs have been implemented to insure that these needs are met:  nutritional program, religious services, educational program, recreational program, hygiene program, health services and counseling services.

Parents and/or legal guardians and grandparents are encouraged to visit youth that are detained in the Juvenile Home.  Visitation is scheduled for one half-hour each Sunday afternoon between 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm and one half-hour on Thursday between 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm.  The Assistant Juvenile Home Director must approve exceptions in advance.

Our mission is to provide a safe, secure environment offering positive social and educational opportunities, which facilitate the return of detained youth to their communities as law-abiding, personally successful citizens.
