The Calhoun County Board of Commissioners approved a Parks Millage to go to the voters in 2020, and it was approved by voters on Aug. 4, 2020. The Park Millage Renewal will be on the ballot on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

How does the millage work?
The vote on August 6 is for a millage renewal rate at .2 mills for five years and will not raise taxes. The millage generates approximately $911,600 per year to be used to operate, preserve, acquire, maintain, and develop parks in Calhoun County. Each year, 50% of Parks Millage funds are used for County parks, and 50% of funds are allocated to cities, townships, and villages for their parks. The allocation to local governments is based on population size, with additional funds available for park amenities in rural communities, improving river access, and matching grant funds.

The Calhoun County Parks and Recreation Commission is responsible for overseeing the funds collected by the millage and ultimately, all decisions of how and where money is spent is approved by the County Board of Commissioners. 

How much will your community receive?  
The millage is formatted so that every municipality can accept an allocation based on its population size. ALL municipalities will have the opportunity to accept or decline millage funds.
