Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) Accommodations

Persons with a disability recognized under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) are entitled to “reasonable” accommodations.  The intent of Calhoun County is to assure that individuals with a disability have equal and full access to all programs and services provided.  

 

ADA Accommodation Requests:

To request a reasonable accommodation under the ADA, please complete the Request for Accommodation Form provided below and return it to the ADA Coordinator.  Within 15 calendar days after receiving the request, the ADA Coordinator or designee will consult with the person requesting the accommodation to discuss the information in greater detail.  Within 15 days calendar days after the consultation, the ADA Coordinator will provide a written response to the request.  If there are any questions or additional assistance is needed with the request process, please contact the ADA Coordinator directly.

Grievance Procedure:

This grievance procedure is established to meet the requirements of the ADA.  It may be used by anyone that wishes to file a dispute regarding the denial of an ADA accommodation request and/or make an alleged complaint regarding unlawful disability discrimination.  The complaint process for employment related matters is addressed separately in Board Policy Policy #315 – Equal Employment Opportunity

The dispute or complaint should be in writing and contain the name and contact information of the complainant, as well as a detailed summary of the issue.  The dispute or complaint should be submitted as soon as possible to the ADA Coordinator identified above, but no later than 60 days after the alleged violation has occurred.  Within 15 calendar days after receiving the dispute/complaint, the ADA Coordinator will provide the information to the County Administrator/Controller and Corporation Counsel who will make a final determination.  Additional information may be requested of the complainant if needed to make a decision or to reach resolution.  Within 15 days calendar days of the determination, the ADA Coordinator will provide a written response to the complainant.
